Dr. Park awarded $1.4M from CEC to Improve Natural Gas Energy Efficiency

Riverside, Ca –

Dr. Chan Seung Park, Research Engineer of WCGEC, was awarded $1,499,910 from the California Energy Commission (CEC) for his proposal entitled "Demonstration of Smart Combustion Technology using Natural Gas Fuel Quality Sensor." Over the next three years of the project, Park will be collaborating with Dr, Christopher Ryu at CSU Fullerton to develop this system.

The main goal of this project is to develop and demonstrate the “Smart Combustion System” (SCS) based on intelligent sensing and control technology that measures the variation of fuel quality of Natural Gas (NG) in real time and improve fuel efficiency, emissions and combustion process. The proposed technology will be demonstrated with a natural gas boiler in food industrial sector. A real-time data collection, analysis, and monitoring will be demonstrated through a cloud based system as a part of measurement and verification plan. This monitoring application can help deploy SCS in wide areas for the State to achieve large scale, commercial impacts for various industry segment.
